Wireless headphones have become very popular in recent years. With the rise of smart phones, wireless pairing has become a standard feature. Many brands offer wireless headphones, and they come in many styles and prices.
Headphones have also become a fashion statement, with many celebrities endorsing famous brands. Some even cost thousands of dollars!

Google recently released their own brand of wireless headphone called Google Pixel buds. These come in the color options charcoal gray, chalk white, and electric orange. They are advertised as ultra-lightweight with crystal clear sound quality. They also have up to 5 hours of battery life per charge!
This article will tell you all about how to turn off your Google Pixel Buds so that you do not accidentally activate your Google Assistant.
Put headphones down
Google Assistant headphones make it easy to put them down. You do not have to disconnect them from the device you are using them with or even from the device they are connected to- the wireless connection!
You can put them down on a table, in a pocket, or even in a nearby chair. As long as they are away from your hands, the headphones can function properly.
When you are not using the headphones, they will continue to listen for your voice commands. This is part of their smart functionality– they know when to listen and when not to!
If you would like to disconnect them from your device, there is a button on the earpiece that does just that. Pressing this button will end the connection between the headset and your device.
Hold down the button on the microphone
In order to disable Google Assistant on your headphones, you must first disable the ability to activate the microphone.
To do this, you have to hold down the button on the microphone for about seven seconds. This will disable the ability for the headphones to listen for commands.
This disables the whole purpose of having Bluetooth headphones with Google Assistant integration, but it is a necessary step if you do not feel comfortable having this technology in your hands or ears. It is an easy fix and one that should be talked about more.
It also gives you time to think about if you want to delete your account or not and change your privacy settings. It is totally understandable if someone does not want to do that, though. It is a big decision and very personal, so don’t feel bad if you decide to keep your account but still disable the feature.
Go to settings > devices > Google Assistant headphones > toggle off
Now that Google has released their own pair of headphones, users may be wondering how to turn off the assistant functionality on them.
Like most other Bluetooth devices, the Pixel buds sync with your device through the Google Assistant app. This means that you can’t turn off the headphones completely unless you delete the app.
Although this does not affect the use of the headphones, it does mean that you have to re-install the app if you want to use Assistant on your device.
The best way to turn off the Google Assistant on these headphones is to go to settings > devices > Google Assistant headphones and toggle off. This will disable all access to the Google Assistant on these devices and is a quick fix for those who do not want to uninstall the app or disconnect the headphones.
Unplug headphones from USB charger
Once you have disconnected your headphones from the device you normally pair them with, you must remove the headphones from the USB charger.
This may seem obvious, but it is important to note that if you leave the headphones attached to the charger, Google Assistant will remain active. This is because the headphones are being powered by the charger, not just connected to it.
Hold down the button on the microphone and turn them on again
If you find that Google Assistant is listening too much, there’s an easy fix! All you have to do is hold down the button on the microphone and turn them on again.
This will reset the mic button so it is no longer sensitive and it will disable the “wake word” so it does not respond to “hey Google” or “OK Google”.
It will take a couple of days for it to recognize your voice again, but once it does, you are good to go. This makes it very easy to turn off Google Assistant headphones for a short time if you need to.
If you want to keep them off, try turning off the Bluetooth on your phone and then holding down the mic button for seven seconds until the lights go off.

If you have Google Assistant enabled headphones, you can ask Google how to turn off your headphones. This is a great way to be funny or quirky with the Assistant.
If you say “Turn off my headphones,” it will turn off the audio part of the headphone connection. If you say “Turn off my wireless headphones,” it will turn off the wireless part of the connection.
If you have weird settings like that, check your phone settings under Assistant>Settings>Short Answers>Short Answers on Phone. If it is checked, then Google Assistant answers short questions on your phone.
This is useful if you lose your phone and want to ask it a question so that it responds on the speaker instead of just taking up the screen with an error message. Unchecking this option will prevent that from happening.
